Trumpeter Swans

"OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS"
Trumpeter Swans
The loss of prime wetland nesting sites and
over harvest of the swan back in the 1800's just about made it
extinct on the Iowa landscape and the Continental United States.
Only 69 swans remained in the Continental
United States by the 1930's. Iowa initiated the Trumpeter Swan
Restoration Program in 1993. It's goal is to have 15 nesting pairs
by the year 2003.
" THE TRUMPETER SWANS NEED OUR HELP."
We not only owe it to
the Trumpeters, but for Iowa's future generations. Let's make sure
that our grandchildren will have the opportunity to view this
magnificent bird on our remaining wetlands here in Iowa.
