Taylor
Construction recently completed the Walnut Creek
National Wildlife Refuge & Prairie Learning Center Project near Prairie City, Iowa.
This $12,500,000.00 project for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was a special
project for Gary Tonhouse, General Superintendent for Taylor Construction
Group. Gary's interest in the project is a direct result of Gary's twelve
years of "filling the view finder of his Nikon camera with
scenes from Iowa prairie preserve sites." During these years, Gary made countless
early morning forays into Iowa's native flora and fauna. These trips resulted in fifty
magnificent color prints which were on display for the opening of the Prairie Learning
Center at the Walnut Creek National Wildlife Refuge which opened during the Spring of
1997. Gary indicated that "the prairie sites have provided me with a lot of
enjoyment and happiness. This exhibit is my way of paying Iowa back. I've always enjoyed nature. I know the various species, and I know
what to look for in different seasons," said Tonhouse.
Parcel funding for the printing and mounting of the exhibit was provided by Taylor
Construction Group and the
subcontractors and suppliers that built the Prairie Learning
Center building.
The Photos were on display at the Prairie Learning Center for two months
and will be on display at Iowa libraries and schools for the next two years.
Photos and
description of the Prairie learning Center are included in this Cornerstone.
